Confused About Assignment vs Subletting?

I’m really confused about the difference between assignment and subletting my Toronto rental. If I want to leave early, should I try to assign my lease or sublet it? What's the best option to permanently leave? Also, do I need my landlord's approval for both? Any insights would be helpful!
