Confused about subletting rights and landlord restrictions in Toronto

Hi everyone! I'm new to Toronto and trying to understand subletting. My landlord just denied my request to sublet, but I've heard tenants have rights. Can they really stop me from finding someone to take over the lease? Also, what about Airbnb? I’m so lost on all this!
