Natural subletting rights question - confused tenant

Hey everyone, I'm a tenant in Toronto and recently my landlord denied my request to sublet. I'm unsure about the legal process for subletting here. Can my landlord really restrict my rights to sublet, and what about Airbnb usage? I'm just so confused about what's allowed and what isn’t!
