Struggling with $2400 Rent for 1BR in Toronto – Is This the New Normal?

I'm disheartened to see average rents for a 1BR in Toronto hit $2400. Just last year, I was paying $1800, and my landlord doubled it at renewal. How is anyone affording rent in this city anymore? It feels like we're all just trying to survive a broken rental market.
