Is parking really worth the extra rent in downtown?

I'm considering moving closer to downtown to reduce my commute, but the parking costs are making me hesitant. I've heard some places can add $150 to $300 to rent just for a spot! Is it really worth the convenience? How much do you all pay for parking in the city?
