This rental market is a nightmare - help!

I can’t believe how insane the rental prices are! Another rent increase? Seriously? Landlord thinks $2800 for a bachelor is reasonable? Every time I find a place I like, it’s gone in a snap. Just got outbid again! How is anyone supposed to survive in this market?!
