Need advice on rent prices in the Beaches this winter

I'm looking at a 1-bedroom in the Beaches for $2100. I've lived in Toronto for a while, but I'm wondering if this is reasonable given the current market. Also, are there any tips for heating efficiently through the winter months? Is the Beaches a good area in the colder months?
