Is It Normal for Landlords to Ask for 3 Months' Rent Upfront?

Hey everyone, I've come across a listing where the landlord is requesting three months' rent in advance. It feels sketchy to me! Has anyone else experienced this? I'm starting to wonder if I've stumbled into a scam or just an odd policy. Thoughts?
