Looking for advice on winter rental options in the Annex

I'm moving to Toronto in January and I'm considering the Annex. Rent seems to be around $2800 for a one-bedroom. Is that typical for the area? I want to be close to transit and amenities. Any tips on winter rentals or neighborhoods I should consider?
