Need advice on rent increase in downtown Toronto

My landlord just informed me that my rent will be increasing by $300 starting next month. I'm currently paying $2400 for a one-bedroom in the St. Lawrence Market area. Is this increase legal, and how much can they actually raise the rent? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
