Are employment letters a standard request for leasing?

Hi everyone! I'm in the process of signing a lease in Toronto, and my landlord is asking for my employment letter and bank statements. Is this a common practice, or should I be concerned? What are my rights regarding this request? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
