Is it common for landlords to request credit checks out of the blue?

Hi everyone, I recently applied for a 1-bedroom in Riverdale that's $2200, but my landlord suddenly asked for a credit check after I signed the lease. Is this normal? I thought a credit check was only needed before signing. Feeling a bit uneasy about this situation!
