Average 1BR rent is $2400 – How can anyone afford that?

Just checked rental listings, and the average 1BR is sitting at a staggering $2400. It's disheartening to see even areas like Jane & Finch now creeping into the $2200 range. Is this the new normal? How is anyone managing to afford rent in Toronto anymore?
