How do people feel about subway access for renters?

I'm curious about what everyone thinks is a reasonable distance from the subway. If it’s more than a 10-minute walk, is it worth it? I’ve heard mixed reviews from friends who live a bit further out but pay lower rent. Just trying to weigh my options!
