Need help choosing neighborhoods - East York or Leslieville?

Hey everyone, I just graduated and I'm starting my first job in downtown Toronto. I'm looking at neighborhoods and I'm torn between East York and Leslieville. I've seen rents around $1800 for a small one-bedroom in both areas. What's the vibe like? Any thoughts on commuting and amenities? Thanks!
