Seeking family-friendly housing options in Toronto this winter

We’re moving to Toronto in January, and I'm feeling overwhelmed! We have two kids and need a safe neighborhood with good schools. Can anyone share experiences with East York or Leaside? I'm also curious if $2800 is a reasonable price for a 3-bedroom. Thanks for any tips!
