Confusion Over Pet Deposits in Ontario

Is a pet deposit even legal in Ontario? My landlord wants to charge a pet fee, but I heard Ontario pet deposits are illegal. What can landlords actually charge for pets? Also, is pet rent a thing? I'm just trying to find the most affordable studio apartment!
