Confused About Subletting Rights in Toronto - Need Clarification!

Just graduated and I'm looking to sublet my apartment while starting a new job. My landlord says I can't sublet, but I've heard tenants have rights. Can they really deny my request? What about Airbnb? I'm a bit lost on what the legal process entails and where I stand. Help!
