Renters Insurance in Toronto - Worth the Cost?

I'm starting my first job after graduation and looking for an apartment in Toronto. I’ve heard about renters insurance but I'm wondering if it’s worth the money, especially on a tight budget. What do cheaper options cover, and do landlords generally require it? Any claims experiences to share?
