Can landlords really deny subletting? Need clarity!

I'm a bit lost on my rights regarding subletting in Toronto. My landlord is saying no to my request, but I thought there are legal processes for this? Also, what about Airbnb — can they stop that too? I'm confused about what I can legally do with my lease.
