The struggle of finding a place with good subway access

I love the idea of downsizing to a chic condo, but finding one near a subway line feels daunting. How far from a subway station is too far? My reality is a long walk or a costly Uber, and I’m not sure I'm ready to trade convenience for a smaller space.
