Thinking about moving to Kensington Market - thoughts?

I've been eyeing Kensington Market for a while! The vibe is so eclectic and lively, but I'm curious about rental prices there. Do they include taxes or are there extra fees? Anyone have experiences finding a place that doesn’t break the bank? Also, how’s the safety around there these days?
