Need tips for moving to Toronto this winter!

I’m relocating to Toronto from Vancouver in January and completely lost on where to start. Looking for a one-bedroom in the downtown area but also want to stay within a budget of $2300. Any advice on neighborhoods, rental prices, or if I should consider short-term leases during winter? Thanks!
