Need advice on renting in downtown Toronto this winter

Hi everyone! I'm moving to Toronto soon and trying to decide between a condo and an apartment in the downtown core. I'm looking specifically at the Distillery District and Queen West. Seeing some condos around $2400 but not sure if that's too much. Any tips on what to look for? Thanks!
