Feeling defeated in this rental bidding war madness!

Just lost another apartment to some ridiculous higher bid! How are we supposed to guess how high to go? I’m stuck in this awful cycle of sealed bids and getting outbid, with terrible landlords who don't care about us. Is anyone else feeling this frustration?
