Confused about my lease terms and landlord's obligations

I can't believe my landlord is trying to charge me for repairs to things that were broken before I even moved in! Isn’t that part of their responsibility? Can anyone clarify what my rights are regarding repairs and maintenance? Feeling totally overwhelmed and frustrated here!
