Assignment vs Subletting: What's the Difference?

I'm really confused about whether to go for an assignment or a sublet to leave my rental in Toronto. What’s the difference between assignment vs subletting? Which option is better if I want to get out of my lease permanently? Do I need landlord approval for both? Any guidance would help!
