Tired of losing bids to higher offers! What to do?

The rental market in Toronto is absolutely brutal lately. I keep losing apartments to higher offers, and it feels like I'm just throwing money at a wall. How do I even know how high to go in these sealed bids? It’s so frustrating and I’m worried about scammers taking advantage of this chaos.
