Why is Toronto housing so expensive? Comparison time!

I can't believe how costly Toronto housing is! Seriously, NYC is cheaper than Toronto—how does that make sense? Even Vancouver, while pricey, doesn’t seem as outrageous. Why are rents so high here compared to cities like Montreal or even those in the US? The price comparison is baffling!
