Need help with pet-friendly rentals in Toronto!

I've been hunting for apartments in Toronto that accept pets, but I'm getting confused by some of the lease clauses. One place wanted a hefty pet deposit, and another had weird breed restrictions. Is it typical for landlords to ask for so much? What are your experiences?
