Need advice on East York apartments for January move

I'll be moving to Toronto in January for a new job and looking at East York. I've seen places going for around $2200 for a 1-bedroom, but I'm not sure about the value or commuting options. Is East York a good area for young professionals? Any tips on amenities to consider?
