Renting in Toronto is a nightmare! Who can afford this mess?

I just can't believe how insane this rental market is! Another rent increase? Seriously?! How is anyone supposed to afford this? Landlord wants $2800 for a bachelor?! I viewed 15 places and they were gone within hours. I'm so sick of these bidding wars—I'm about to give up.
