Exploring Hamilton and Oshawa for Cheaper Living

I'm considering a move to Hamilton or Oshawa to escape Toronto prices. Anyone with experience commuting into Toronto via the GO train? I'm curious if the lower rent justifies the commute time. Are the suburbs worth it in terms of quality of life and overall savings?
