Confused about subletting rights in Toronto - Help!

I’m in a bit of a pickle. My landlord just denied my request to sublet my 2-bedroom unit. I thought tenants had some rights to sublet? Can they really restrict that? Also, is it true there are different rules for platforms like Airbnb? I'm lost!
