Upstairs neighbor sounds like they're bowling at 3am. What can I do?

I’m at my wits' end with my upstairs neighbor. It sounds like they’re hosting bowling tournaments every night at 3am, which makes it impossible to sleep. I really don’t want to escalate things unnecessarily. How do you deal with noisy neighbors while keeping the peace?
