Just lost out on another rental - bidding wars are insane!

I’ve been in Toronto for a few months now, and I can’t believe how competitive the rental market is. Just lost another place today because someone offered $300 over asking! Is it normal for people to pay so much more? How do I even stand out with so many applications? Feeling pretty stressed!
