Landlord's 'Chill-Out' Rule: No Cats, But a Pet Rock Collection Allowed!

Is it weird that my landlord has a strict no-pet policy but proudly displays a collection of pet rocks in the hallway? They even have names! I'm tempted to adopt one but not sure if that counts as breaking the rules. Anyone else experience such quirky landlord preferences?
