Stunned by Rent Hikes: Why Is It So Much Higher Than Before?

I can’t believe how much rents have shot up in Toronto! I’m seeing prices 30-50% higher than what I currently pay. How is it that I'm looking at the same building and facing a turnover rent spike? Why are new tenants charged $800 more? This pricing disparity is beyond confusing!
