Getting outbid again! How is this normal?

Just lost out on another rental! I can’t believe someone offered $150 over asking! This is becoming a nightmare. How do people keep affording to pay more? I feel like I'm in a never-ending competition where the rules keep changing. Is anyone else dealing with this madness?
