Frustrated with Toronto Rent Bidding Wars! Any Advice?

I can't believe how competitive the rental market is right now! I've lost out on several great places just because my offer wasn't high enough. How do I even know how much to bid without getting scammed? Sealed bids make this so stressful, and I'm not sure what strategy to use!
