Confused about pet deposits in Ontario!

I’m really frustrated! My landlord is asking for a pet deposit, but I thought pet deposits were illegal in Ontario? What exactly can they charge for having pets? Is it just a fee or a rent increase? I feel like I'm being taken advantage of here and need some clarity!
