Is my landlord asking for too much? Need advice on rental docs!

Hi everyone, I’m in the process of renting a 1-bedroom in Leslieville and the landlord wants either an employment letter or bank statements. Is this normal in Toronto rentals? The rent is $2200, but I’m worried about how much they’re asking for verification. What's your experience? Thanks!
