Talk me out of signing a lease for a $2000/mo 1BR in a sketchy area

I'm considering a 1BR for $2000, but the neighborhood has had some crime issues and my current place is much safer. On the other hand, it’s closer to my job, but I really don’t want to sacrifice safety for convenience. Help me decide if I should keep looking or take the plunge!
