Advice on Facing Rent Increases in Kensington Market?

I've lived in Kensington for 5 years; my rent's jumping from $1800 to $2200. Is it worth staying, or should I consider moving to Little Portugal? Any tips on negotiating or finding deals in the area would be appreciated.
