Concerns About Condo Special Assessments for Renters

I'm worried about what happens when a condo receives a special assessment. Do renters end up paying these fees or is it just the owners? I've heard rent could go up because of these assessments, and I'm considering leaving if that's the case. Anyone else facing this issue?
