Need advice on east Toronto neighborhoods for new job

I'm considering a job offer in the East End and might relocate to Toronto. I've heard good things about Leslieville and The Beaches, but how's the vibe, and what are the average rent prices like? Any tips on commuting from those areas would also be appreciated!
