Confused about pet deposits and fees in Ontario!

Hi everyone! I’m new to Toronto and I’m feeling a bit lost about pet deposits. My landlord is asking for a pet deposit, but I heard that pet deposits are illegal in Ontario? Can they charge me a pet fee instead? What’s the difference between pet rent and deposits? Any clarity would really help!
