Horror story: Elevator broke on moving day

Worst moving day ever! The elevator in my new apartment broke down just as the movers arrived. We ended up hauling everything up 12 flights of stairs. I’m still sore a week later! Has anyone else faced moving day disasters? Any tips for handling the chaos?
