Need advice on job change while 7 months left on lease

I just got a job offer in a different city, but I'm 7 months into a 12-month lease. I've talked to my landlord about breaking the lease, but they mentioned hefty penalties. Has anyone been through this and can share what options I might have? Looking for ideas on negotiating or finding a solution.
