Elevator broke on moving day. Carried everything up 12 floors!

Worst moving day ever, need to share this. Our elevator decided to break down right as we were loading the truck. My friends and I ended up carrying all our boxes and furniture up 12 flights of stairs! What's your craziest moving story? Any tips for surviving those last-minute disasters?
